How long should bleeding last after using septic on dogs nails?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

i was clipping my dogs nails and they started bleeding and it wont stop even when i am using septic! PLEASE HELP! I will give best answer!

Styptic powder should immediately stop the bleeding. Are you using the powder or a pencil? Put the powder in a small dish and press the nail directly into a large pile of the powder to pack it into the quick. If you are using a pencil, they don’t work very well. Try cornstarch or even plain white flour, same as the styptic powder, put a pile into a dish and press the bleeding end of the nail firmly into it. Hopefully that will stop it for you.

——

Mine says basically to apply the styptic powder, apply pressure, and repeat if needed. I’ve never had to use more than one application. I would say, apply it, elevate the paw above their heart while applying pressure to the nail. I’d give it about 15-30 mins, then take the dog to the vet. You don’t want the poor thing to bleed to death! They’ll be able to get it to stop for sure!

How to breed finches through winter?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Hi i have a pair of finches and wanting them to breed how do they breed through winter?

u can use artificial lighting indoors for them to breed in winter and also ensure the house is warm and that they get some good egg food. i always give my birds boiled eggs grated its easy for them to eat and they love it.

———-

they dont usually breed in winter but they might they usually breed like crazy in spring so if they dont breed in winter they will in spring so dont get to worried about it just try and keep them in a warm area and have about 2-3 nesting boxes so they can choose the 1 that suits them the best

How to put a horse bridle together; just the curb chain, reins, bit, etc.?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I am a 1st time horse owner and I bought my horse a bridle.
It is already together, but I have no clue how to put the curb chain, tom thumb bit, and reins into it!
It is an english bridle… not a fancy dressage one or anything.

A tom thumb is a Western rather than an English bit (its also not a suggested bit; however bit choice is not what you asked). So, are you sure, since you said your bit is a tom thumb, that you have an English bridle?

Find yourself a bridle hook or door knob to hang your bridle the way it goes on the horse to put it together.

HEADSTALL - goes from the bit, up behind the horse’s ears, back down the other side to the bit. Hang your bridle by the crownpiece/top of the headstall.

Find the top of your bit: If the shanks [vertical bars on each side of the mouthpiece] arch, the inside of the arch-curve is the back of the bit. There are rings at each end of the shanks. The top set might have slots; the slots go to the back, and thats where your curb chain goes. If its English there should be hooks to attach the curb chain with.

The headstall should have slot-and-T-post hooks for the bit to go in (English). To open these, pull downward so the T-post slides out of the notch, down the slot, then lift the slot off of the T-post at an angle. You now have open tabs.

Turn the shanks of your bit (if they swivel) so the bit is in the above position, and slip the leather tab through the inside of the top ring on the left side of your bit. Then refasten it the same way you opened it. Repeat for the other side of the bit to the headstall. Make sure no straps are twisted and that the bit lays the same way on each side.

Once you have the bit in the headstall, fasten the curb chain making sure it lays flat and is not twisted. Hang it evenly from each side, behind the headstall straps on the topmost bit rings. If your bit does not have slots for the curb chain (some do and some don’t), it just goes on the same rings as the headstall, in back of the headstall.

Your English reins should have probably the same type of T-post fasteners (sorry if there is another name for these I don’t know). The reins go on the lower-most bit rings. If your reins buckle at the bight, this little buckle will go in the middle of the reins, allowing you to separate the pair of reins.

That’s about it. Cross-pieces are the browband that goes across your horse’s forehead and if your bridle has one, a noseband. Run the noseband (if there is one) inside of the bit for now until you see the way it lays on the horse. (If there isn’t one, don’t worry about it).

THROAT LASH - is the narrow strap this goes at the back of your headstall, runs under your horse’s neck where it joins his head and buckles. You must unbuckle this to put the bridle on and take the bridle off of your horse each time you ride.

You may want to try a plain ring snaffle bit instead; because its kinder for your horse. If you do, it just has one larger set of rings on each side instead of shanks; attach the headstall to those rings, then fasten the reins onto the same rings behind the headstall.

The link/s below will take you to some diagrams. Hope this helps!

Western horse I riding lessons in Greenville SC?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I have a friend who lives in Grenville South Carolina. He wants to start his 7 year old daughter in western riding. Does anyone know of any western training stables in Greenville?

Eden Farms (www.edenfarms.net) is located in Marietta, SC and isn’t too far from Greenville. They give western pleasure lessons and work with all types of kids. The people there are extremely nice. Also, Vandele Farm is located at Lake Lure, NC and offers western lessons for children. There address/number is below. There are TONS of english instructors in your area. If your friend’s daughter decides to start riding english I would recommend she join a local Pony Club. There are two Pony Clubs near Greenville. How can i keep my cat off my counters? and out of my christmas tree?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

For the christmas tree, I spray Apple Bitter on the tree to keep my 2 cats from biting and climbing the tree. Has always worked. Link below shows the product. I purchased it at Petsmart. It is a product for both cats and dogs. They taste it just once and they won’t do it again!

The counters….a spray bottle works only when you are there. Use orange cleaning products on the counter. Cats hate orange scented things.

How to persuade a client to get vaccines and heartworm preventative for “indoor” animals?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Considering studies have overwhelmingly proven that we are horribly overvaccinating and overmedicating our pets, I think a smarter solution would be for you to do some research and realize that vets are in fact poisoning our pets.

My cat gets rabies updated every 3 years, and that’s it. He is THE healthiest cat in the world, at age 11, he’s never been ill, has perfect white teeth, is in perfect condition, and acts like a kitten still. My dogs get heartworm meds only in the hot wet months of summer, and also only get rabies updates every 3 years. I do not use flea and tick products. My animals are perfectly healthy and I think it’s ridiculous the amount of overkill vets push on their clients these days. I’ve had cats since I was born and none of them have ever gotten heartworms!!! Nor have I ever had a dog with kennel cough, and my dogs sit in my grooming salon every day and go to the dog park 3x per week!

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

1.      shave it.

2.      I know this isn’t a fish, but you should consider getting African mini-frogs. They are fun to watch and play well with other fish.

3.      Maybe 3 or 4 African cichlids. 20 is too small for Dempseys and large cichlids.

4.      Damzels

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol

Why is my 8 year old cat?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
  1. He is marking his territory. Or take him to the vet just to make sure. But I’m pretty sure he is just marking his territory
  2. Well it COULD be just an aging cat thing, however urinary problems are common with male cats. He could have a bladder infection, or worse- kidney or bladder stones. I lost a male cat to bladder stones. Peeing around the house was the first sign of any problem, and by then it was too late. Some other health problems like diabetes and tumors can cause this too. If I were you, I’d take him to the vet right away and make sure he’s alright.
  3. some one has come inside your house with another cat scent on their shoes, cats have a good nose, so your cat smells it and trys to out spray it with it’s pee!!Try cleaning some areas with citiral oil.
  4. I won’t waste time with a lengthy answer, but.. this site here:
    http://www.hdw-inc.com/litterbox.htm
Has plenty of information on your problem, just scroll down a little to “URINE MARKING AND SPRAYING” and read up on that.
  5. Inappropriate elimination is often a symptom of urinary tract infection. The cat begins to associate the pain he experiences while peeing with the litter box, so goes elsewhere. He might also be trying to get your attention.

So your first step is to have the cat evaluated by a veterinarian. If you notice he is straining a lot but not producing much (may seem constipated), then it is urgent enough to find an emergency vet after hours. Male cats sometimes get blocked up, and then it is only a matter of hours before it is too late. If he is not completely blocked up, then it can wait until morning - but make sure to get him in to see the vet tomorrow.

Here is a link to a good article on how to solve litter box problems, in case it’s not a medical issue http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pe…

  6. He is marking his territory.
  7. is he spraying or urinating?

the first thing that comes to my mind, especially with an older cat is kidney issues or diabetes. it could also be a urinary tract infection. if this is a new thing for him to do, a trip to the vets is a good idea. if its not a medical issue they can advise you on what to do for behavior problems.

how are is appetite and water intake?
