Booking a Hotel

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

There seem to be an awful lot of ogunquit hotels and as I am trying to find one to stay in soon, I am finding it tricky knowing which one to choose. They all seem really good and I am tempted just to pick a random one or to stay at several just in case one is not so good as another! If you read the websites, they all say they are good and all of their features are great. The pictures look lovely too. Sometimes I wonder what to expect when I get to a place though as the pictures are not always an accurate representation as obviously they are of the very best rooms, which are not normally the ones that I can afford!

As I am on a tight budget, I have also been looking at ogunquit motels and really these are pretty good as well and all look pretty much the same as each other. I really do think that I will just pick the cheapest and see what it is like and then I will be able to save some money and hopefully get good value for money. The only way to tell is to book up and see.

Cakes

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I have just had a new food catalogue through from my local supermarket. They do catered food and also lovely cakes. I was looking through the cakes because I think they look pretty and they seemed to have something for every occasion that you could think of. Of course they had lots of birthday cakes for men and women and children. They had Christmas and Easter cakes and they had Mothers Day cakes. They had wedding cakes and bridal shower cakes and even baby shower cakes which I thought were delightful.

I am likely to be helping to organise one soon and so it is great t know that there are cakes available. In fact I really should be starting to think about the party and the things that I need to do as I have been asked to come up with some ideas with the food and also organise the baby shower decorations. I am not really sure where I would get those from and so I ought to start searching on line and see whether I can get any ideas. I am sure I will be able to find some nice things as there are bound to be some Internet sites selling pretty things.

A ready-to-eat, hard-boiled egg!

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Here’s some good news for those who often avoid eating eggs at breakfast thinking boiling is time-consuming — scientists have developed a ready-to-eat, hard-boiled variety.

According to them, though a hard-boiled egg will cost exactly double the price of a regular one, it is no doubt the ideal shopping solution that would boost the number of eggs eaten at home.

“Eggs are so easily forgotten when menu planning at home. They can be seen as a fridge-filler and consumers need to be reminded that they are a versatile, value-for-money alternative to other proteins,” the ‘Daily Mail’ quoted Fin Cottle of Noble Foods, which developed the variety, as saying.

At present, the hard-boiled eggs are being launched at selected British supermarket chain Sainsbury’s convenience stores and are priced at around two pounds for a pack of four.

The launch of the ready-to-eat eggs came a week after a new variety of oranges, that can be peeled in just 35 seconds, was developed by British scientists and marketed by the supermarket giant.

The orange is of the same size and shape as that of a normal orange, considered as the spherical bomb of vitamin C, but has a softer skin, making it as simple to peel as a satsuma, according to its developers.

Moreover, it creates less mess because it is easier to segment and has less pith — perfect for office workers eating lunch at their desks. And, the orange is 50 percent sweeter than its traditional rival.

The convenience of the product will tempt customers back into the habit of buying and eating oranges, Sainsbury’s had said.

Why does the chicken from chinese restaurants not look the chicken I use in my kitchen?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

It just doesn’t seem to pull apart like chicken and always seems to have a fatty layer around it under the sauces. It really grosses me out. My husband loves chinese but the chicken dishes gross me out by the way they look. Why does it look different?

To prepare the chicken for stir-fries, they boil the chunks of chicken with baking soda, which softens it and significantly changes the texture. The same process is done for beef which is why the beef in beef and broccoli tastes so rubbery.

——

it is chicken it is just that chinese usually dip it in a coating before cooking , i cooked all my life and have worked with a chinese cook , the only thing you need to worry about is the majarity of chinese cooks do not have the same hygiene and sometimes do things that you would not do. and no i am not saying all chinese are dirty or anything like that they just are trained very differant in cooking

Is Red Bull really as bad for you as everyone says it is?

Friday, July 18th, 2008

No it is not. This is s prime example of how a little knowledge can do a lot of damage. The only problems people have with it is by using too much of it. Red Bull recommends having only 1 to 2 a day. The 2nd largest selling energy drink, which is also the 1st and largest healthy energy drink, XS Energy recommends having only one and no more than 2 a day.

There are things to be concerned about. 26 - 34 g of sugar per serving. 50 mg of caffeine per serving. Taurine. Guarna. Each of these is a cause for concern so people here this then go spouting off at the mouth for all that will, or even won’t listen about how bad they are. THEY ARE NOT!

I can go into each but I will actually keep this post short. Suffice it to say that is used as intended and in moderation there is no reason to worry about the concerns people have about energy drinks.

Is there a website i can see MPW recipes from his programme?

Homemade onion rings?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

HOW DO YOU MAKE EM??!!

1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups beer, room temperature
Salt and Pepper
3 very large yellow onions
3 cups oil for deep frying
PREPARATION:
Combine flour and beer in a large bowl and blend thoroughly with a whisk. Cover the bowl and allow the batter to sit at room temperature for 3 hours.
Cut onions into 1/4-inch thick slices then separate into rings. Heat oil to 370°.

Using metal tongs, dip a few onion slices into the batter. Then carefully place them in the hot fat. Fry onion rings about 2 minutes, turning them once or twice until they’re an even delicate golden color .

—–

First you need to slice the onions whole so they make good rings. I like to cut mine about 1/2 inch thick (I like em big).

Next you need to make a batter using flour (or you can get special batter mix for onion rings at the local grocery store)

Mix and dip then deep fry. I suggest a deep fryer or deep enough cooking pan because you will need enough oil to cover them. cook loosely so they don’t stick together.
